Nicaragua

My name is Maria Asuncion Cuadra and I live in the city of Rivas in Nicaragua with my husband and our five children. My husband’s salary is not enough to meet our family’s needs, so four years ago I joined a microfinance project supported by Catholic Relief Services. I received a loan of $108 and started a business selling fresh drinks in the city market. My business has been successful and grows little by little each year. I am happy to be able to help support our family.

I recently used some of the profits from my business to go to a doctor for a medical check-up. I haven’t been able to afford a trip to the doctor in a long time, so I was very relieved to learn that I am in perfect health. I am proud that I have been able to repay my loan, and I plan to take out another one so that I can expand my business by offering more products. I will use my profits to fix the roof on my stall in the market, and to invest in improvements for our family’s house.
